Benefits (OTIP)

OSSTF has worked closely with our partners at the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) to design a made-for-OSSTF benefits plan based on an analysis of benefit usage cost trends, and direct feedback from members. For specific coverage questions, you can contact OTIP at 1-866-783-6847 or download the Benefits booklet from the OTIP website which can be accessed in the 'my claims' section under 'benefits' when you login on the site.  Most claims can be submitted electronically and sometimes directly through the provider.  For claim forms, visit the providers website.

Benefit Employee Contribution Rates

While our employer, the board, contributes to our benefit plan, each member is responsible for a portion of the cost.  The amount per member varies on the type of plan (family or individual) and your Full-Time Equivalency (FTE).  Part time teacher have to pay more as the employer only pays their portion based on your FTE.

Effective September 1, 2023 direct billing of plan member contributions will be implemented for eligible OSSTF Teachers who are in an eligible Long Term Occasional Teaching position of 90 calendar days or longer.

Effective February 1, 2024, direct billing of plan member contributions (rather than payroll deduction for active plan members) for all remaining and newly eligible OSSTF members will be implemented. Further detailed general information will be communicated to all from OSSTF Benefits prior to this transition, and detailed requests will be sent by OTIP to affected plan members to obtain the PAD authorization prior to the February 1, 2024 transition date.

Please read this letter from OTIP about this change or contact OTIP directly for more information.
