Bargaining Pathway Results - Sept 27, 2023
Members of OSSTF in the OntEd school board sector have voted to adopt the proposal to resolve bargaining w/ the ON govt through a process that could include binding interest arbitration. Proposal was adopted w/ 78.4% support. More info: https://bit.ly/3tgWVCR

Bargaining Bulletin: Issue 39
The latest news from OSSTF has left our members with many questions. Please stay tuned. We are in the process of gathering information on when a Town Hall will be happening for D16 and will update members as soon as we have details.

June is Pride Month: Join D16 T/OT at York Pride in Newmarket on June 16 & 17th.
​
Events: D16 T/OT will be participating in the Aurora Street Festival and York Pride! Be sure to pop by and see us at these local York Region events. If you would like to help out with York Pride, please see the weekly on Wed. May 24th to sign up.

OSSTF PA Day: The OSSTF PA Day is fast approaching. Be sure to complete the form found in your weekly OSSTF D16 emails the three Wednesdays prior to May 5th. This is required by all OSSTF teachers and LTOs who are working on the PA Day.

March/April: School Visits
During these two months, a representative from the D16 T/OT office will be visiting each school location to meet with the staff to discuss bargaining and next steps for members.

Feb 14: Action Item
In response to the nearly 18% OCT Fee increase, on February 8, the OTF launched a Send My Email tool for Members to send an email to the OCT Governing Council in protest of the fee increase and demanding that the fee increase be reversed and for members to receive a refund of the difference in the increase.
D16 T/OT members are encouraged to take the 30 seconds needed to complete this action.

Feb 1: February is Black history month, although teaching Black History in culturally responsive ways occurs 365 days a year.
February 1, 2023, will mark the 28th anniversary of the celebration of Black History Month in Canada. This year’s theme is “Ours to Tell.” OSSTF/FEESO encourages all educators to raise their awareness, reflect, and amplify the experiences of Black Canadians in their daily practice.
Ways to celebrate Black History and Culture can include,

supporting Black businesses,

celebrating with cross-curricular activities,
-
sponsoring or donating to a Black community initiative,
-
reviewing OSSTF/FEESO’s publication – Canadian Black Lives,
-
learning about Black innovators, and
-
exploring your local Black historical sites.
Dec 21: Community Donations
On behalf of the membership, D16 T/OT has made $500 donations to each York Region food bank and an additional $500 to Kids Help Phone.
Through the organizing efforts of our Status of Women Committee and the supporting teacher at each school, we collectively donated over $9000 to the Women's Centre of York Region and their Winter Warmth campaign.

OSSTF Provincial is hosting an OTPP Pension Workshop on January 31st. See DBU#078 in the weekly email from Dec 14th to register.
